US President Donald Trump expressed his desire to meet with Kim Jong Un of North Korea during his meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, despite ongoing US sanctions. Trump's remarks came during Lee's first major foreign trip since assuming the presidency this past June. The three-day trip is intended to bolster South Korean cooperation with the US and Japan against the North.
Trump's Relationship with Kim Jong Un
Trump characterized his relationship with the North Korean leader as very good, and expressed hope that it would stay that way. When asked if he would meet with Kim Jong Un in the appropriate future, Trump responded affirmatively.

Trump also commented on President Lee's recent remarks regarding the US sanctions against the North. He indicated that the sanctions would stay in place until North Korea's nuclear threats were addressed.
