Rescued baby gorilla recovers from smuggling ordeal
A news release from the Polonezköy Zoo in Istanbul states that the infant gorilla, Zeytin, who was rescued from a plane's shipping container at Istanbul Airport last year, is recovering well and may be returned to his native Nigeria soon.
According to the statement, Zeytin continues to gain weight and grow taller since his rescue in December. Turkish authorities are currently seeking assurances from Nigeria that the young gorilla will not be at risk of being targeted by illegal traders once he is returned to his homeland.
