N Korea Denies Removing Propaganda Loudspeakers at Border
August 14, 2025
North Korea has denied allegations that it has removed propaganda loudspeakers at the border with South Korea, according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on August 14. Citing a spokesman for the Central Front Command, KCNA said that the North is continuing its propaganda broadcasts as before and has no plans to change them. The denial comes after the South Korean military reported on August 13 that the North had suddenly removed the loudspeakers that had been blasting propaganda across the border for decades. The removal sparked speculation about a possible thaw in relations between the two nations. However, the KCNA report argued that the South's claim was part of an effort to undermine the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK and suggested that the South was trying to distract attention from its own failed propaganda.
