Bear attack victim was actually killed by son, Japanese police say

A "bear attack" victim found dead in a Japanese mountain town was actually killed by his son, according to local police. The grizzly find comes after a woman's body was discovered in a remote cabin on Thursday, with initial investigations suggesting she had been attacked by a bear. Police have now arrested a man, aged in his 30s, on suspicion of murder over the £90,000 ($800) life insurance policy he took out on his mother. Officers believe the woman, aged in her 60s, was killed with a "blade-like object" in a "fit of anger" after refusing to grant the suspect's request for money. The man has reportedly admitted to stabbing his mother, but denied killing her. Authorities are yet to recover the weapon, which police say could be a knife. Arrest warrants for other members of the woman's family are also pending.
